Cooch Behar Trophy: Odisha suffer hat-trick of defeats

Odisha lost to Jammu & Kashmir by 174 runs on the fourth and last day of their Elite Group-C match in the Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Cricket Tournament at Ravenshaw University Ground here today. This was an embarrassing hat-trick for Odisha, who suffered three defeats in a row.

Put into bat by new captain and wicket-keeper Manas Ranjan Nayak, Jammu & Kashmir made a competitive total of 256 and then bowled out Odisha for a meager 97. The visitors then rode on a century each by Kanhaiya Wadhawan and Musaif Ajaz to declare their second innings at 350 for six.

Chasing mammoth target of 510 runs for victory, Odisha put up a brave fight before folding up for 335. Captain Nayak and his predecessor Anil Parida stood tall amidst ruins, scoring century and half-century respectively.

In-form Nayak slammed a flamboyant 171 (275 balls, 25x4, 2x6), while Parida made 69 (137 balls, 11x4). Ankitkar Jaiswal once again was the most successful among Odisha bowlers, with match haul of six wickets for 193 runs.

Odisha made as many as six changes in the playing eleven for match against Baroda, replacing Anwesh Tripathy, Manitej Mohanty, Ayush Naik, Suman Kumar Das, Sandeep Chauhan, Ashutosh Chhuria with Sanket Behera, Kumar P Samantaray, K Iswar Prasad, Surya Narayan Biswal, Malaya R Pradhan and Md Shah Arman.
